If you suffer from acne, you probably believe that you have severe acne. The truth is however, that most people do not suffer from severe acne; they only have mild to moderate cases. When you are suffering though, and in the middle of blackheads, large open pores, oily skin and whiteheads, the situation always looks grim.
Severe acne is characterized by deep cysts under the skin. When hair follicles become infected, bacteria will begin to grow. And deep under the skin, painful and large cysts will develop. The cysts can create deep scarring and painful marks. Deep infections can occur that lead to more severe infections and permanent damage to the skin. Severe acne is also characterized by an abundance of blackheads covering the nose, forehead and even the neck area.
There is only so much you can do to treat severe acne on your own. Over the counter creams and cleansers will only work to an extent. Severe acne usually needs to be treated by a medical professional. If you suffer from deep, painful acne pimples and inflammations do not despair there are treatment options available to you. Topical creams and ointments can be particularly effective. However, if these do not work, trying oral antibiotics may be the route for you.
